Star-Spangled 200, Inc. is the not-for-profit entity that supports the fundraising goals of the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. Established in September 2010, Star-Spangled 200, Inc. is charged with educating the public through celebration and commemoration of the historical events of the War of 1812 by supporting the charitable and educational activities of the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission.
Embark the USS San Antonio (LPD-17) - June 13, 10:30 a.m. Take a Navy helicopter ride from Martin State Airport and land on the USS San Antonio, the lead ship of her class of amphibious transport dock or landing platform dock, which was designed to deliver up to 800 Marines ashore by landing craft or helicopters. Tour the ship and interview the ships captain and crew before docking at North Locust Point. Once docked, shuttled back to Martin State Airport(eight-hour commitment).
The USS San Antonio is the first amphibious transport dock of the 12-ship San Antonio class. She is used to transport and land Marines, their equipment and supplies by embarked air cushion or conventional landing craft or Expeditionary Fighting Vehicles, augmented by helicopters or vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. She will support amphibious assault, special ops or expeditionary warfare missions through the first half of the 21st century.
